The Food Safety Commission of Japan (FSC) and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) have signed a Memorandum of Cooperation in order to expand their cooperation and develop their coordination into more concrete actions.
The FSC has been making efforts to develop close relationships with the EFSA and has been building up a network of connections among experts of both sides through mutual invitation programmes for those experts.
The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation is based on the 17th Japan-EU Summit Joint Press Statement Annex; Japan-EU Cooperation on Consumer Safety and Protection which stated “Japan and the EU will explore possibilities for strengthening reciprocal exchange of information on food safety”.
The FSC will continue to enhance cooperation as a risk assessment organisation with the EFSA by exchanging information and views on risk assessment measures and individual challenges at regular meetings based on the signed Memorandum of Cooperation.
